Clinic Staff (2015)

Our providers offer state-of-the-art HIV medical care and look forward to partnering with you on your healthcare journey.

Attending physicians

An attending physician has completed all specialty and sub-specialty training and is employed as a faculty member in the Division of Infectious Diseases. Several of our attending physicians trained here as fellows and liked it so much they stayed!

  • E-P Barrette, MD, FACP
  • Nigar Kirmani, MD
  • William Powderly, MD
  • Rachel Presti, MD, PhD
  • Steve Lawrence, MD
Nurse practitioners

Whereas a registered nurse (RN) has completed an advanced training program in a medical specialty, a nurse practitioner (NP) can be a primary provider and prescribe medications.

  • Debra Gase, RN, MSN, FNP-BC
  • Katie Hannigan, RN, MSN, FNP-BC
Physician assistant

A physician assistant (PA) is a licensed and certified health care professional who practices medicine in partnership with doctors. Similar to a nurse practitioner (NP),  a PA can also prescribe medications.

  • Philana Liang, PA-C, MPH
Residents and fellows

A resident is a physician who has finished medical school and is receiving training in a specialized area like internal medicine. Board certification requires satisfactory completion of a residency program.

A fellow is a physician who has finished medical school plus residency, and is now receiving more sub-specialty training in infectious diseases.
